Choosing Credit Card - Part 2

Some companies charges annual fees or application fee. There are companies that are willing to waive the annual fee for the first year or even for the next year; depending on your how you handle your credits. There are different charges for standard, gold and platinum membership. Membership usually depends on your annual salary.

You should ask the issuers about transaction fees and other charges. These charges can be a monthly charge whether you are using the card or not, late payment charges, cash advance or when you exceed the credit limit. It is important to know what you will be paying before obliging on an account.

The computation methods must be looked upon thoroughly. Are they using Average Daily Balance? Adjusted Balance? Or two-cycle balance? If you don’t understand how the balances are computed, you must ask the card issuers. The computations are often reflected on the monthly billing statement.

If you are a credit card holder already, you should compare the plans carefully before deciding to swap cards. If you are a good credit card holder and have good credit ratings, you can negotiate with the institution to lower your current rates.
